Evolution of Trivia Games on the Web

Lets admit it, playing is common in all societies and it is not likely that people will want to stop having fun. Some may argue that playing and having fun are not necessities. However, everybody prefers to have fun at work than to be bored with the daily routine. Don't you? Therefore, we can say playing is useful and can solve many problems. For instance, if people in your company were enjoying of their work on a daily basis, they would be more productive and besides, they would be nicer people to be around with. Kids at school don't always enjoy studying for their biology exam. They usually prefer to have fun and play than to be doing what they are ordered to do. Having this in mind, we can feel confident about stating again that playing is useful and it motivates people.

Why are we not converting every daily task into a fun activity? Why is it so difficult to make children enjoy of education at school? Certainly, many smart people around the globe are trying to figure out how to solve this problem. Probably the creators of Trivial Pursuit had something similar in mind when they decided to create their game. However, they were restricted to the knowledge contained inside some paper question cards inside a box. The good news is that thanks to the Internet, knowledge does not have to be constrained to the space of a box anymore. The World Wide Web is granting us with the necessary pathways to transport all kinds of knowledge to every corner with the only requisite of having Internet connection.

Trivia games can be used in the same way they were used before, to entertain and educate, with the difference that with the internet as an ally, the box of question can grow without having a defined limit. What would happen if every trivia lover started to put a question card inside that imaginary box (the Internet)? In that case there would always be an extra question nobody has tried guessing before.

There are applications for trivia games distributed all around the web, their advantage is they can use all the resources available on the Internet. In Trivial Pursuit it was not possible to use the millions of YouTube videos, or Images available in Google Images or in Flickr. Now that is possible. Trivia games on the web can have access to all those resources and make good use of them to entertain and educate. Trivia games are evolving from being mere letters in a paper question card, to be software applications played over the browser where multimedia helps users to be more engaged and get the most fun out of each question. The trivia world is evolving!
